it was bitter cold today and yet our egg production continues to rise 4 eggs out of 19 today woohoo

3 out of 3 today and it was 2 degrees in the barn this morning. The chickens didn't seem to care.

1/9 I have noticed with this cold weather the eggs are usually smaller than normal. Anyone else have that happen?

10/12 but will be getting one from now on. My lab caught one of my reds today. That makes chicken number 4 since I started raising chickens last Easter.

I'm just "going with the flow" on this one. We have only had chickens since this past spring and I figure that if they want to share a space, so be it. It is a little hard to reach under to get the eggs though so I bought a child's hoe and keep it in the coop. It makes it very easy to scoop out the eggs. ~ : ) I went so far as to make little curtains for the nesting boxes - Geeze!!! Just grateful they are laying so well. We bought a dozen "girls" because people said we would lose a few as they matured. Nope - not us. We have twelve very healthy, happy, friendly girls milling around "talking" and laying. Life is good (better with eggs).

I had a beautiful well summer rooster only a yr and a half when he passed away in October. He quit crowing for a few months. I didn't know it was a sign of illness. Anyone know what could of happened ? Thanks Nancy
