How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

2/6 today. In the last two days in this sub-zero weather I have gotten three eggs! One yesterday from one Golden Comet and the two today from my other two Golden Comets! I guess my two white Leghorns and one white Plymouth Rock are just too cold to lay! Can't say that I blame them! Brrrr.....

4/10 today....the last two weeks they have started to lay again, November they pretty much quit, getting 5 eggs a week was a boon....told my husband last night one of the Ancona's was getting ready to start laying again and today she gave us an egg.

Im starting to see signs from a few of the others too (combs are getting red, and they are spending time wandering in and out of the coop), hopefully by next week we be up to 5-6 eggs a day and by March we should start seeing the 10 pullets start laying...

In northern Indiana I have witnessed no falling on production with my girls. Of the 16 hens I have been getting 12-14 eggs per day through the severe weather we just had. So, my question is why do they say that weather extremes cause them to fall off? My limited experience tells me that production is not based on weather. It would seem that food, light, love and care would play more of a factor. What are your trials showing you? Are you testing any particular variable? Would you like to share?

I would like to see us get together in this forum and compare notes so we all can experience the best production our girls can give us. Does anyone care to lead?

Ii read that extreme changes in weather, light, or amount of feed/water can cause hens to molt and when this happens it can take up to 2months before they are back to laying. So I guess when winter hits, with the change in temperature and reduction in light, this could cause them to start molting.
