AWESOME!4/5/12 today with a very respectable 62 gram egg from one of my BR who's only got a week of laying under her belt.
Great idea! I understand what you mean about the dog house. I had a Cream Legbar flying over the fence to get to a community laying box that I had stored in a shed. I finally clipped her wings the other day and drug that huge heavy wooden box into the henhouse.....where she isn't using it!!! Now she is using the single nesting boxes in the henhouse. Hen's are so fickle! However, one of my Red Stars is using it. It is 3x2 feet, with curtains.....the luxury suite! How about stating the kind you have too? That would be useful.
7 from 14 / speckled Sussex.
Just started laying a few weeks ago. Have some vehement protesters that want to lay in the dog house. Have had them cooped up for this the 3rd day. Was only getting 2-4 prior to cooping. Still at least 3 holdouts who want to run over to the dog house the minute we let them get the last bit of light (at about 4:30) to free range. (I feel so guilty!)
I heard something about the shortest day of the year, did it already happen and now they are going to get longer? I'm excited to see if I get more eggs like you did today.e I'm watching the nesting boxes on the coop cam while drinking coffee.
They are LOUD today, and they are waiting in line to get into the "preferred" nest, despite having 10 boxes, plus a large community nesting box! There are 3 hens at this moment crammed into the "preferred" box!
