How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Quote:
My 5 original chickens are 21 months. The rest were hatches from June to October of last year, and January-February this year.
I didn't think 3 month old chickens would molt. The original 5 and June to October chickens molted last fall. I'm confused too.

Is anyone else's chickens molting?

My chickens do everything they're not supposed to do...

They started laying during molting last fall and so far no change with this molting.
6 hens are off duty because they're setting or just hatched baby chicks.
I can't imagine the January pullets would start laying until next month.

I got 16 chicken eggs today.

(I'm missing 2 OEGB eggs and 1 EE egg I think.)

And I'm still looking for the guinea egg.
I let them out early because we were going away, and.....

3 month old molt is normal, just wait till the 18 month one hits. Wow! Feather mattress explosion

Ok, that's good to know about the 3 month old molt....lol. I must admit I don't know much about molting and will have to educate myself.

Meat birds are usually in the freezer by 18 months for most people from what I understand. I have Cochins, Brahma, EES and Speckled Sussex that molted last fall. It looked like a feather mattress explosion once the Cochin and Brahmas started, white and bluefeathers everywhere. None of them were bare thankfully, hate to think of the kids naked. Ewww!

Quote: When we had meat birds they were bought as day olds around the end of March and they were processed and in the freezer before harvest (mid August) They never had a chance to molt...lol. This was like, 20 years ago though.
