I am at 14 today

Oh, I have first gens, 2nd gens, 3rd gens & 4th generations of hens. So I went thru a lot of integration within almost 3 years of hen keeping. So am thinking my original 7 chickens will go to "Iceland" for a big vacay.

before they go to a major molt, and have 3-4 eggs to 0 this fall. Do I have the guts to do it, don't know yet.

7 eggs today. Lost my first chicken. Unfortunately she succumbed to the heat this afternoon (low 100s). I'm kind of upset as she was a great layer when she wasn't broody, and she's our first loss. But at the same time I'm kind of relieved as she was the meanest of my flock. Kids took it well though, with comments like she's in heaven now or I didn't like her anyways she was too mean. I just feel bad because I should have been out there sooner, I could have seen the it before it became an issue but they had water and they had food. So I don't honestly think there was much I could have done other then running water to cool the area.

I'm so sorry. I can't wait for this heat to go down soon too.

thank you it had been cooler last week so I hadn't been as consistent watering their area. It might not have helped though that she was broody though the coop has plenty of ventilation. You know maybe she was already too weak before she realized she needed to get up and get water.
