Momma duck gave up sitting on her nest after 32 days and none hatched

Coldest morning of the year yet 32 F degrees but day time temp's 72 F degrees with clear skys and light winds .

Sorry to hear that none of the duck eggs hatched.

I hope you are staying warm! Temps here have been brutal. I think the high today was 9 degrees! I made it home today for a few hours. My daughter flew in from college and we stayed with my parents, then today she followed me back to our house. She was afraid the roads were going to be icy like they were the other day (she hasn't ever driven in snow or ice yet). The roads were clear. I checked on the chickens. Most of the water bowls were frozen, but otherwise they were fine. I even let one coop out for a few hours. They've been on hawk alert lockdown for about 2 weeks now. I did get 1 egg. My hubby said he got 2 eggs yesterday, but 1 was broken.

Temp's Cold morning only 27 F degrees this morning and all the water hoses were frozen till late this afternoon, by 10 AM the temps got up to 62 F degrees with a slight wind coming up from the south so we had clear skys but ether way that is cold for us ....

Nice to see you are spending some time with your family during the holidays I know it sure can make a person feel better inside .. So has your daughter got a drivers licenses yet and I can defiantly understand her fear of driving on icy roads ..


It was down to 27 F degrees this morning so I am guessing winter is here now and that is cold for here .

So far at around 9am, 2 dozen. Still 2 girls setting that I couldn't check and last time I checked to see if they got out on the nest there were 2 more sitting in the 4 nester box! Been getting just shy of 3 dozen a day.
I do have a light that comes on around 6am and goes off at 8am. Night for them comes naturally.
Feed them 20% layer's grain, ground up and bagged by Spencer Elevator.


Just came in from giving the girls another 2 gallons of water and came back in with 2 more which brings this day to my or their best day yet...36!!!

The numbers are finally ticking back up for the chickens. e Over the past month, was only getting an average of 6 per day but have started getting 10-11 the last couple of days..!

Still nothing from the ducks.
