Notes
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm milk, yeast, sugar, salt, butter, and eggs. Add in flour. Using a dough hook, turn the mixer on to a low speed.
- Once the flour starts to incorporate into the dough, increase the speed to a medium range. Add more flour as necessary so that the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. The dough mixture should be tacky, but not stick to your hands. It should be soft. Add more or less flour until the dough reaches the desired consistency. The amount of flour you add in bread making is always an approximation and you should go by feel.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly greased mixing bowl. Cover with a towel and let rise until double in size, about 1 hour.
- Lightly grease a baking sheet. Punch down the dough and roll into a 12inch by 18inch rectangle.
- Brush the dough with ½ cup melted butter. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle on top of the melted butter. Roll up tightly lengthwise so you have one long roll. Use plain dental floss or a sharp knife to cut the dough into 12 one-inch slices.
- Place the slices onto a lightly 9x13 pan. Cover and let rise 30 to 45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Bake the rolls for about 14 minutes, until just kissed with brown on top.
- While the cinnamon rolls are baking, make the cream cheese glaze by using a hand mixer to whip together cream cheese and butter in a bowl until light and fluffy. Whip in powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Add enough milk to achieve a drizzle-like consistency.
- Frost the rolls while still warm. Serve immediately or cool and store. Stays good for 4 to 5 days.
***Some have reported under cooked rolls. Cooking time is dependent on the size of your rolls and oven. You should cook the rolls until they have just a kiss of brown on the top. If they don't have a kiss of brown, they probably aren't done. Cooking time may be upwards of 18-20 minutes.
Hi Wicked, the thought had crossed my mind, but I wasn't sure if she would accept them since she won't have even been broody for a week when the incubator eggs hatch. I had also thought about putting some of the eggs from the incubator under the broody for them to hatch out with her, but again, I'm nervous that maybe she won't accept them because she won't have been broody very long. Are you thinking of giving the eggs/chicks to your barred rock? This opens opens up new possibilities...lol.
I've got 9 hens taking turns going broody.![]()
I just put a few of them in the kennel thi morning so they wouldn't disrupt the others laying eggs while I was gone today.
I love the picture! It is so cool to see some eggs just pipped, others completely empty and others somewhere in between! Plus chicks fluffing out! Thanks for sharing. Good use of the wild donkeys to pack down the sand on the road!! Relatively free laborTuesday
Chicken eggs 7 found and 4 of the eggs are being set aside for the incubator .
The geese are still taking turns sitting on the nest and all the girls look so funny after donating their down to the nest .
Well another four chicks showed up today and as you can see are on the way so right now there are a total of 8 chicks running around![]()

Temps mid 80's all day and by 11am I headed home looks like it is going to be a hot year again and I now have two of the five miles of road passible and once I get the water flowing the birds will join as long as the Donkeys don't mind, funny I put out some chicken scratch on the road and the wild Donkeys eat it and walked on and packed the new sand on the road well there are no wild sheep this low and it is ill-legal to feed or in any way interact wild sheep anyway so I just use the Donkeys .
Another good use for extra eggs is a frittata! I had seen some made on a cooking show and was intrigued. So, I googled some recipes and made one for dinner the other night. Used 7 eggs! The one I made had ham, green peppers, onion & potatoes in it. I added some tomato & zucchini because I had them on hand. Hubby & I thought it needed more ham & less potato. Also, the whole thing was topped with cheddar cheese. Made another one tonight. I had leftover seafood from dinner at Red Lobsters last night (my birthday dinner). So I tried to improvise a crab & lobster frittata. I wish I had used swiss or parmesan cheese instead of the colby jack cheese blend, but otherwise it was pretty good. This sounds fantastic! Now I know what to do with all those eggs coming my way in 6 or 8 months! Thanks!
My problem is that if I don't notice the cracks while they are frozen, I usually don't see them when they thaw out. I have had 1 stinky 1 in the house, but otherwise, I have noticed them all. Would have hated to have accidently sold that one to anyone though.
Great egg count!!14 eggs and 14 hens
This recipe is making my mouth water! Im so gonna try these. I just have to find my way to the store to pick up some missing ingredients. Thanks for sharing@karenerwin
