I actually just found out what it was! I was in the back of the house getting ready for bed when I heard a noise outside coming from that coop's area. We let the dog out and followed her with a flashlight and armed hubby. We found a big ole coon INSIDE THE COOP. We managed to get it where hubby could take a safe shot. So no more coon attacking, at least, not that coon. Now I have to find out how such a big coon made it inside and fix that problem!!

2/5 today, was hoping the eclipse would spur the others to lay but no luck. Man, if some of these girls don't get their act together I might have to start working on eviction notices.

2/3 today. The RIR and Barred Rock have started to become regular layers. The Australorp is a little slower getting started.

The rooster in the coop with the raccoon definitely tried the defend his girls!! He snapped off a spur! And has some blood on his comb and is walking with a bit of a limp. I'm guessing the noise I heard last night was when the coon got spurred because the noise wasn't from a chicken. My hubby said you could tell the coon was guilty because of all the chicken feathers in its' mouth. Sitting out by the big "disposal " bonfire now. Lol. Way too hot for a bonfire but you do what you got to do. Haven't collected eggs yet today. Did enjoy watching the eclipse!

We got our first egg today! Our leghorn, Stella, laid. We have 4 total chickens. She is the first to lay. My boyfriend is so excited that he declared we are going out this weekend and buying two more chickens.

I got eight eggs from 10 hens always have A dozen in the fridge. Haven't bought eggs in months.
