We have rain today but like 45 degrees say we may get our first snow this week

We got to 38*f today. Should be in the 50’s tomorrow. My poor roo looks so disgruntled from the frostbite XD. He’s pecking around happy though. Hoping to get 17-18 eggs tomorrow. I don’t know if all my 24 hens are laying though.

Congratulations My big girls gave me 6 was surpised one of silky is not broody she is laying one egg every day

I got two eggs yesterday!
Both of them were the color my Australorp lay!
For me that is pretty great since I know my other layer is an Orpington.

I am looking forward to more of my birds coming back into lay.

5 yesterday, 3 so far by 10:30 AM but Nuit hopped in the nest as I was about to finish barn tasks and I had to take the 3 out from under her. Thus there should be at least 4 today.

7 yesterday and 4 today! Sold 3 dozen eggs this week so that is great as it means I've covered their food

They’d been burying their eggs to 7-8” of shavings and nesting materials to protect their eggs from freezing -really smart hens.

That is so smart - very cool!

To the point of telling my boss at work I have family emergency so I can have 2 hour break, changing to work boots and work clothes and back to business attire LOL

24 out of 24 laid last night. They should keep production around there now since they all started laying. They have another year and a half before the cull.
