How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Oh Brucey Brucey Brucey :lau:lau:lau
We got 9 eggs today. School was cancelled today because we having temps in the -30's with the windchill!!! The actual low was -4 (before wind chill).
We interrupt this broadcast with breaking news.....
they just cancelled school for tomorrow too.

It's snowing now and the roads and a disaster.
Cold cold! But yay for a couple of snow days! I hope you don't need to go out on the roads Karen. Pics I need pics :clap:clap:clap:clap

Only 9 today. Horrendously cold today. Everything was shut down. I kept my birds inside but I fear one of my roosters might have frostbite on his comb.

I’m afraid one of my roosters got the same thing from being in the run yesterday. It’s been subzeros here even the high haven’t reach single digits. I guess today will be high of 6*

Well, given the extremely cold temps yesterday (-12F with windchill at -36F and 35mph winds), we surprisingly got 5 eggs from 9 layers!!

We've been giving them food in the coop and run to make sure they are eating. Some warm mash too (feed + water) with some rehydrated chopped alfalfa. Also some dry corn in the later afternoon before roosting. Trying to keep their internal heaters going! They raised the temp of the coop many degrees above the outside temp, and it is draft free.

We also have doubly secured heat lamp going for these really cold temps. However, the heat lamp (connected to a thermostat) was supposed to turn on at 15F, but it was incorrectly set-up and didn't turn on till 3F, so they didn't have the heat lamp on as much as I thought! Evidence of some frostbite on combs, but the coop is dry and well ventilated, so definitely attributed simply to the low temps, as some of the chickens have ventured outside - the coop is protected from the prevailing winter winds, though, which is a plus.
