How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

None 🙁 my none of my hens have laid their first egg yet. Starting to wonder if they are going to
My almost 30 week pullet laid her first finally! 1 down 5 to go, and one of those is well over 30 weeks old. All are Polish x barnyard mix pullets. Seems anything goes this year!

1 today. 2 yesterday. I thought my EE was done for awhile, but she took 2 days off and laid yesterday, but not today. Very grateful for those 3 plus the 1 previously in the fridge. I have been making a 1/2 squash and 1 egg for breakfast the past few days. Nice to not have to purchase a meal…a few squash left from the garden. We will see how much longer those two layers hold on.

It’s my second winter with these girls, got them in June last year. How long do most breeds stop for? I have 6 currently on break, Welsummer, Marans, Orpington, Olive Egger, Sussex & Faverolles. The EE and another Marans are the two I still get a few eggs a week from.
Surprisingly enough, my silkies are my best layers, they pretty much give me a daily egg when they aren’t broody. Which is usually twice a year for about 4 weeks or so. After which they jump right back into laying. And all through the winter. Good girls!

I have some Azurs I am interested to see if they slow up (I hope they do I prefer they don’t burn themselves out laying), this is their first winter so they may not slow up.

Each breed is different and each bird also. That’s what makes it so much fun!

It varies is the safe answer.

Laying after a break starts to pick up here about 2 weeks after winter solstice. That means a long slow gradual crawl out of the egg absence increasing an egg or 2 a week per bird from the best layers until hitting the beginning of March when they are back to full production finally.
The slackers (low production birds) take forever to get back to their full production in mid to late April.
Thank you for this info! 😊

6 eggs today, and I have established that Muffy has laid a lovely baby blue egg - I am assuming that the two other wee eggs are hers but since I wasn’t there to witness I can only attest to the one she laid today - so that is the first 😊

What a pretty color. :love

I'm a little disappointed with one of my girls. I got 7 nice eggs this morning which is good, but one of my chickens decided to peck a small hole into one of the eggs. It didn't break the membrane so I went ahead and fried it up really well and ate it.

I rigged up a dehydrator/dryer for drying eggshells to a crispy state. I had an old cooling fan laying around so I decided to put it to good use. The egg shells are totally dry when I leave them in it overnight, and crumble easily into bite size pieces. Works really well!
