How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I checked after I set up a winter waterer, one cold egg. I'll check again in an hour or so. I don't want them to freeze!

Yes, I date the first and last egg in each carton as they are filled. Helps me keep thing rotated. I pass on extras to family.

I used to put the name of the hen and date laid on my eggs, but now mum gets the eggs usually so I don’t know who lays what. And date is easy I don’t usually have eggs around long enough to worry.

It sure was fun putting the names on the eggs, people got a kick out of it! I might see if I can get back to naming some of them and popping a picture of some of the hens in the egg cartons. People like to know where their food comes from usually.

I am soooooo surprised I haven’t had any frozen one - yet

I put my thermometer in the barn alleyway to see what the temp is in there, I think it’s about around the freezing mark. Outside is right now -15C.

15 today - one had a peck hole in the air sack end, darn second one like that in a week. Someone is not playing nice in the nest box.

Maybe they poked it with a toe nail? I've had that happen before when a lot of eggs were in the nest.

It was 6F and I had a Muscovy wing to clip after she showed me she could fly as high as my house yesterday. While trying to catch her Grandson told me I just stepped on an egg hidden in the snow. It was frozen anyway and I managed to get her and she got a feather cut so all was well. I still have my stockpile so I was happy with the ordeal.
