How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

When I grew up in Georgia (1950s-60s in the Marietta/Kennesaw area), February & March were the months we could expect a little snow and definitely some sleet/ice storms. (Always a wet Christmas, never a white one! Januarys were cold & wet, too.) I remember Mom cooking in the fireplace for days after some bad ice storms knocked down power lines all over the place, while we bundled up in sleeping bags near the hearth. 🥶 Seemed to happen about once a winter, sometimes twice, in Feb/March.

Is that weather pattern still normal in your area? Or maybe you're south of there...🤔
I’m near Augusta Georgia. We are mostly hot and humid. Lol just had the AC on the other day. We get very mild winters. I don’t think we even got to freezing til January and that was only a couple of days. Lived here my entire life only very little snow but some people remember the 14 inches of snow in February of 1973. I don’t really remember I was only a couple years old. I’ve seen pictures my mom had of me standing in the snow waist deep is the only way I believed it happened 🤣 And my children have only seen maybe 4 or 5 inches of snow probably once. But yeah typically any real cold or snow or ice will always be in February. In February 2014 Augusta had a huge ice storm like I had never seen and thousands of people were without power for awhile. It was sheer panic here because people around here don’t see this kind of weather or know how to act when it happens 🤣 I just shared with you the only 2 winter related storms I can remember that had any impact. I can’t stand cold though so I guess I’m in the right place:yesss:

All 4 of my currently laying girls made rent payments today. Hopefully the 11 free loaders will start contributing soon. I’m up to 2 dozen fresh eggs on hand and a couple dozen water glassed ones. We’re definitely on the upswing and haven’t had to buy any grocery store eggs.

3 today, Mei, Juin and Août.

Juillet is done laying for a while I think, it’s been over a week, and her personality is back to what it was before she started laying. When she was a chick she wasn’t food motivated at all, but as soon as she hit puberty she became desperate to search for grubs and worms. Now she will pick up worms and toss them aside, and she hardly does any scratching, preferring to half-heartedly nibble on grass. Her lack of interest in worms alarmed me at first, but she’s eating enough feed and has a ton of energy, so I guess she’s feeling good!

Mei was also feeling good today. She got her sunbath at last! :yesss:

It’s interesting how the climates have changed, definitely less snow than I received as a kid, and no where near as cold! Thank goodness! I hate winter; me, the horses and chooks are enjoying not having bitterly cold snowy weather.

As for eggs - today I think I got 17 - I lost count climbing up straw stacks and hay bales 😁
