How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Today was the first 9 egg day! One fell out behind the chicken onto the floor of the coop lol This is her third egg so she's still learning <3

I think all of my first batch of girls are laying now except 1 Jersey Giant Maryanne, who is a little late to mature.

I have 5 more queued up - they are all 18 weeks old but they are all later laying breeds, 2 Wyandottes, 1 Orpington and 2 Copper Marans.

When all 17 are laying its gonna be n u t s LOL

I have not gotten any in a couple of weeks does anyone know the cause it’s been getting cold at night and I’m feeding them plenty of water and protein food
Could be a lot of reasons. If you’re in the northern hemisphere, it could be light levels. Supplemental light can help them keep laying through the winter, but naturally many breeds take a break in the darker months.

It could also be the case that your girls are molting, and they stop laying while this happens.

Less likely, but they could also be sick, have a high parasite load, or be stressed from perhaps a predator prowling around.

There are probably many more reasons, but this time of year it’s probably light and/or molting that’s the cause.

Age, winter coming on, moulting, breed, etc any of those or all the above.

How old? What breed? Are you in a northern climate?

It’s normal for them to slow down and even stop in the winter months. It’s a good thing as it gives their bodies a rest and helps their body to replenish calcium levels so they can maintain strong eggshell and their bones.

The only ones laying here are my pullets that have just started to lay. My older ladies are all either moulting or stopped for winter.
