I know what you mean about opening the box and interrupting one of the girls. They always give me the stink- eye even though I apologize immediately.

The winter storm had dropped almost 4" and I decided I'd close up the coop hatch early. I closed the hatch and gathered 5 eggs from my 9 girls. Sweetie was in box 2 and cooing sweetly. I figured I would trudge out again later - because she always takes her sweet time in the nesting box - which I did around 5pm tonight. I battled the wind and snow and then shoveled the small drift in front of the coop. I get inside and no Sweetie egg. I realize now that she was probably just staying warm and knew that the other girls wouldn't bother her. Anyway, back to the house empty handed and knowing that I'll get to shovel a new drift in the morning.
