7/8 I'm glad I got the black australorps.They have been very consistant since the first of the year.

I broke one today, its shell was a tiny bit thinner than usual. Looks like I need to give them a little more layer feed. They weren't eating quite as much when it was really cold, it seemed.

They don't need more layer feed, they need free choice oyster shell or other calcium supplement. Just fix a shallow bin ( I have an old metal "small" bread pan) to the wall and fill it with oyster shell. Put it high enough that they don't kick shavings into it.

5 eggs yesterday.

Yeah we feed flock raiser and free choice oyster shells. Eggs are great and the rooster isnt getting a calcium pverdose lol.

Only five eggs today.

9 out of 14 today! And it was -23 degrees again this morning with a high that was supposed to be a whole 1 degree but I don't think we even got that high.

A nice 7 egg day! We had 2 warmer days this week (45-50*F) and then right back to cold. Wind chills bringing the temps into the low teens.

We got 19 from our 23 BSL's yesterday. Two of them were mega-sized eggs and I'm sure they're both double-yolkers. As a matter of fact I know one was because I made an egg, cheese and tomato sandwich with it for breakfast this morning. Good eating!!!
