Does she have white ear lobes? Is she a cross?
I was just curious as I would like to have a couple white egg layers but am not sure if Leghorns really fit the bill for me. It is odd how white eggs are the standard in the US but there really aren't that many breeds that lay white eggs.If by ear lobes, you man those light circles on her neck?
They look white.
And, is possible she is a cross.
came with many many others of all kinds, from the feed store last year.
I had a buff Cochin, but sad to say she passed on.
I wonder about that as I only have 5 hens and get about 7-8 different color combos The BO is very consistent but my Brahmas have speckled eggs sometimes and other times no speckles. I think it depends on how fast things proceed. I have caught them laying and can now tell who's it is based on size/ shape.
Today was our first ever 4 egg day, everybody contributed.
Goldie is our alpha, but she had been really weak, pale and shaky a couple weeks ago, comb and wattle drying up and faded. We realized her upper beak had grown a bit long, overhanging the lower in a hook, and that made it very hard for her to eat. She would stand back nervous while the others ate, and she wouldn't drink. We trimmed the beak back so it was even, and within two days we saw improvement. Now she is perky, good posture, shiny feathers and she laid her first egg since November, a real big one. (she spent at least two hours on the nest box).
