How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

6/6 finally!! My little Dorothy has finally earned her keep.

Her egg is the very pale beige one. I love all the different shades of brown, and that monster that I think is a double yolker.

4/5 but some seriously "off" ones. My silkie/ameruacana had blood all over her egg. My RSL laid a partially shell-less egg. My ameruacana laid her egg on the ramp exiting the coop. It was covered in poo. Needless to say, my dog had a great breakfast and will probably be gassy later.

6/14 but one is broody and hatched her chicks yesterday. Is it the time of year for them to slow down on egg laying, or are the others not laying b/c the one is broody? My numbers have been way down since she went broody. normal is 10-12 a day.

They will start to slow down as the days get shorter. The great debate often is whether to allow this to occur naturally or to provide artificial light to maintain 14 hours of "daylight" so production is maintained. I provide artificial light to my birds until winter and then let them rest until spring. I got 22/27 today.

Thanks, we changed the inside of the coop a bit, and then had a broody. I figured that upset them lol. Glad to know its just normal for them. I won't be using light, no electric in the coop. Had a house fire 12 years ago, lost everything money could buy, didn't lose any lives. Which is what counts the most. Anyway, thanks!

We're running between 70-80 per day lately as two new flocks of Easter Eggers come into lay. As soon as their eggs size up the old flock of EE girls will be sold off so hopefully will drop back to around 60 a day.
