Out of 34 hens I was getting 3 eggs a day.. Added a warm red light set to run 2 hours before sunrise and switched to 21 percent protein layer feed softened with warm water. It's been 3 weeks and woo hoo! I'm getting 8 eggs a day now!
My best winter layers are my buff corps, black sexlink and barred rocks!
Loving it!
I've installed regular 60w lights into my coop building that come on 2 hrs before daylight and then come on again at sunset and stay on until 9pm.... No heat lights, no special food.
I'm not getting 14/16 eggs a day... Prior to the addition of the light I was only getting 5/16 a day.
I'm getting an average of 5/7 since solstice. I add light, but no heat. My two that aren't laying include a two year old bird in molt and one who is lately the victim of bullying and coming off illness.
