10/10 Gooooood girls! Just wish that my Buff Orpington would break the "small" barrier. She's been laying since early June and the only sizes I ever get from her are pee-wee and small. Grrrrr

Thanks, Quickster. We did an exam after she died and found a tiny, thin piece of wire lodged in her windpipe. It was too small to feel, too far down to see, and just enough to take her. She must have picked it up somewhere when they were free-ranging. When we gave her some bread like we were advised to, it pushed that wire down a little more, so she seemed to be getting better. But the next morning she just quietly passed away. I feel terrible, even though I know it wasn't anybody's fault - just an awful freak accident.

Ok so these are our eggs for today, funny I didn't collect this morning to encourage the younger ones to pay attention. Only one problem, I have no idea whose egg this is. It should be brown if it's Angel's or Janet's. It feels weird, very rough and has an odd patch that doesn't come off. Too much oyster shell maybe?

Blooie sorry for your loss. Gander I hope you are well and aren't getting too much rain. (Seen posts on reddit, flooding in AZ) my girls are getting busier!! 9/22 for past two days.

4/5 and one of those was really big, 88g. And I matched up one more chicken to its egg. My NHR was the first to go red and one of the firsts to squat. I thought she was one of my first layers but nope, she layed me a 42 g speckled egg. We don't keep the eggs long enough for me to compare closely but I'm pretty sure she has only layed a few.
