Are these blood specks?They rubbed off.The egg is wet in the pic and is from new layers.

Other than the bloom, the color is the last thing to be deposited before laying. When the egg is still wet and for a little while after it dries (but before it is "set"), it can be wiped off fairly easily. Think of it like latex paint. It can be washed off with water when wet, but not after it is dry.

Still having to chase down a little 4 week old that is bold and smart enough to escape the run, but too dumb to get back in.

About twice a day I have to chase him, grab him, calm him down, and put him back in the coop with momma and siblings.

Scott, one of my coworkers said he's had really good luck by adding a couple of teaspoons of cayenne pepper to the chicken feed. Sounds strange but whatever works, right?

And I'll go without eggs before I'll buy store bought. Hrmph! So there!

Thank you! I went out this morning and sprinkled cayenne pepper into their feed. I hope I have as much luck with this as your coworker. I'll keep you posted!

I believe there is LED systems that are designed for aquariums that can do that,but they will most likely be $500-$1000

Haha I even have BR's, I've gotta print out the abv cheat sheet that is on this site. My granddaughter always teases me about not remembering texting abv, lol. My BR lay a lighter egg as well, I don't have any DOM'S so I will put my money on them, lol.

My dom eggs are very light. A beige/flesh color......is that called light brown in the chicken world?

Oh I'm sorry, when I first started with my girls I was only getting 1-3 eggs a day so I had a plastic dish I collected them in. That went well until we got a ice storm. While carrying a partial pail of water in one hand and the little bowl with 3 eggs in the other hand, I hit a patch of ice. My feet went out from under me, I came down hard on my shoulder & hip & to my dismay the pail of water dumped all over me & my precious eggs hit the ground & scrambled. I now collect in a egg carton, they are at least protected a little bit.

Oh ouch....I hope you didn't have too much soreness. I have put my coat on and found an egg in the pocket a couple of times .....one day that is going to result in a mess.
