How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I think Clark, Wyoming might well qualify for one of the windiest places. This was a warning today on our local Weather Channel:

This isn't at all unusual. Last year Clark had gusts well over 115 mph and the wind there never takes a day off. Most folks living there have their roofs anchored into the ground. Yep, straps over the roof to hold them. BTW, Clark isn't that far from us.

Got 4 eggs today out of 10 layers + Scout. They were enjoying the balmy 10 degree temps.
What a great place for a wind powered generator!

1 completely frozen (laid overnight because I checked at 9pm)
1 nice warm one (laid while I was in there)

I brought in one like that this morning.... frozen solid...even cracked the length of it. Laid yesterday after 4 pm. There was a tiny white only one early yesterday morning so perhaps another pullet is starting. One should be lain within the hour as I just came in from sitting with one in my lap and another was in a nest box. Only 7 degrees in the coop which usually holds 5 to 15 above outside temps.

I'll take out water again and check in a little bit. Hope they/she will lay before 1:30 today since I will be working the Caring Place food distribution until 6! Won't be home until after 6:45 or later depending on what time we finish filling the last families box of groceries. Afraid they will be frozen again if after that.

That is how my egg was, cracked lengthwise. I'm going to give it another hour and do my mid afternoon collection early.
Yay for tiny eggs!
Dang it, I have 2 thermometers in that coop. One gigantic one so I can see it, and one with a hygrometer for humidity. Do you think I looked at either one while I was out? NO. LOL

from me.

MOUNT WASHINGTON??? Is that the windiest place in the nation, where the wind never stops blowing? I think I saw a TV special about that place.

I thought of you when the news mentioned you were going to get a snow walloping because of the lake affect on that artic air....

LOL......We can always feel blessed by seeing how much snowier or colder it is elsewhere...LOL....

The coldest I've seen in life was 80 below zero with wind chill.....But, I barely remember. I cannot even imagine 60 below, I feel sorry for your Northern Michiganders.....BBBBRRRRR

Last night the snow turned to rain, and our driveway was slushy. I spent another 2 hours pushing slush today!

Thankfully we don't get more than a flurry from lake effect since we're pretty far away. They just tend to prevent the cold air from arriving here as cold as it is on the plains of Canada and the central US. Mt. Washington claims "world's worst weather," and I suppose it's a point of pride if you live here... especially for a weather nerd like myself

. The caveat is that no one actually lives there... it's just the people who man the observatory year-round. I think the record wind there is either 232 or 234 mph and I believe all the buildings are chained to the ground, or granite, as it were. I'm certainly glad it doesn't feel like -80 here, but it's cold enough! If I wanted to get rid of any more from that snow storm I'd have to use an ice pick at this point.

Oh, and 3 eggs this AM so far and they're all cold as ice but not cracked.

That is CRAZY wind!!!

I have never heard of strapping the roof down. People in hurricane and tornado prone areas should do that, what a great idea!
