How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

15/20/22

But one was a thin shelled dropped from the roost. Probably a new layer!

Went to Rural King for feed and stuff.
Came home with these:

Five ISA Browns and three Easter eggers, described as "Araucana (Ameraucana-type).

They sell chicks at the feed store but only broilers, i'm in the process of raising local native chickens and hoping I can cross them with white leghorn, it should be interesting to see what develops
What breeds are local there? Mixing them would be an excellent experiment. I wonder how a cross between a leghorn and a broiler would be, then maybe bred back to the leghorn to wash a bit more of the broiler out? I wonder if you would get some bigger layers? I imagine the broilers have a tough time in the heat and the humidity though.

I got 13 eggs today.
I bought 5 white leghorns because I want to add a couple of white eggs into my basket of eggs, but the leghorns were mean to each other! They were in a 4 ft by 4 ft brooder by they developed a feather picking habit. They even killed one while I was at work! I moved them to a bigger, but less secure area where they could move out into the main chicken yard or get back into "their" area where the big girls couldn't go. That didn't help at all. One ran off, we saw it around for a few days but couldn't catch it, even after dark! 2 others got killed, probably by a hawk (all that was left were feathers). So, out of the 5, we have 1 left. I'm wondering if we had gotten a couple of rooster chicks, even though they came out of a "pullet" cage.
Any light to shed on this Minnehaha? Or anyone else?
Wow Karen it sounds like you got a rogue batch of Leghorns! Which hatchery did they come out of? I had 16 of them from Dunlap Hatchery in Idaho. They are all really sweet, but they can fly off, so, I cut all the flight wings of the ones I kept of that 16 so they couldn't take off just to be safe.

I can't believe one was actually killed by the others....WOW!!!! That must have been a tough day for you.

None of mine pick on each other or anything. I've never heard of such a level of aggression in a White Leghorns.

How old are they now? If they are at least 3 weeks old, their true gender should be determinable.

5 brown (4 red stars, 1 Speckled Sussex)
7 blue/green/olive (Everyone laid an egg in this color range)
2 White (go Leghorns)
1 Lulu Banty egg (laid in the nesting boxes, she's trying to confuse me)

So pretty, my MIL is visiting from out of state, she's a bonafide city girl and loves the eggs! She even took a picture of them, and also loves the way they taste as well!

Nice and colorful a bakers dozen
