Temp 118 F degrees and humidity 7%

Spent a good part of the day just watering that birds the only ones not affected by the were the geese due to the help of the water buckets to sit in also water hose shower later in the evening around 1700 hrs...

The chickens had to be coached on to the watered down ground in the shade but once settled in they would not move .....

The lady's in the control group have a celling fan and swamp cooler for their isolated cage but it still got up to 104 F degrees and they were heavily effected by the heat but also got ice bottles put into their water buckets and the seven of them still drank over five gallons of water today ......... The funny part was watching them trying to put their feet into the water to cool off and I did not notice this with the free range chickens .......

7% humidity at 118 degrees... maybe you had more eggs but they evaporated.

3/10 - year olds; 5/5 from new comers. What's the deal with that? Never had 3 out of 10 from my year olds chicken, lowest ever production. Is it the heat?

When were they a year old? See my post, above. They must be getting ready to molt.

They turned 1 year in Mid April, so they're around 16 months.

I've been waiting since we popped our chicks in the brooder in March to post on this thread!

3 yesterday and I just picked up #3 for today. The girls are just starting to lay!

I think a friend of ours said it best. Aren't they marvelous little creatures? You give them bugs, grasshoppers and table scraps and they give you delicious, fresh eggs in return! It's the perfect partnership!

9 chicken egg's today

7 egg's from the control group

2 egg's from the free rangers

Temp 116 F degrees and humidity 8%

but I had watered down the porch before collecting the readings so it might be off a little but after having a dozen geese up there for several hours I just had to for safety reasons and to save the carpet in the house

I did drive into town to get another box fan for the lad's in the control group and wound up taking several hours at Home-Depo as it is a bit more than one hour drive one way into town and it was just so darn cool in the store ............
