How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Up to 11 for the day out of 14. Funny story: my son is in a wheelchair, he likes to go out to the coop and bring in any eggs after school. I go in and get the eggs and put them in the side pocket of his backpack. Well evidently I forgot to take them out when we got to the house Friday. He came home all laughs because the teacher had to take them out so they didn't crack! OOPS
What a great story!

I have about 40 mature hens who have all been laying for about a year or more. I am only getting about 10 eggs per day and this trend began during the extreme heat of summer. That has been over now for several weeks but my birds also seem to be finishing up a molt too. Additionally other chicken farmers in my community are experiencing the same drop in production. Even my pullets are very late to lay. Does anyone have any thoughts on what's going on with our birds?

I counted 25 chicken eggs in the incubator and as the eggs do not go in all on the same day I am getting hatches on different days

How do you know who is laying eggs and who isn't? I have 16 hens and they started laying eggs about a month ago. First week I was getting about 3 daily. Four weeks later and I'm getting 8 eggs a day, so only half of them are laying eggs. How do I find out who isn't? And what can I do to help?

Alright

Normally I separate the girls and see which ones are producing other people use food color die and put it on their bum but each hen gets a different color ....

BUC has a great learning center and researching there will get you a lot of good info

If you go to the New Members Introduction trend ask the same question and you will receive a lot of different answers

I got my 4th one last night shortly before closing the coop for the night :)

Quote: I have different breeds, so I see different colors. BUT because I'm home pretty much all day I have actually seen specific ones lay eggs/sing the egg song etc. Aside from that, the 4 who are laying their comb is larger and red. My 2 bigs who aren't laying keep going back and forth between pink and red and their comb is still small.
