How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

2 for 3 today. I don't expect any tomorrow. Had to bring them inside due to the blizzard. They are in the basement right now in a cardboard box. I rigged up a space for them to spend tomorrow in but this will be very stressful for them
making changes it took my girls a few day to recover, being in Western Washington we don't have the severe weather but I grew up in Wisconsin.

I have 8 layers in 1 coop; 8 layers in a 2nd coop ( some of which are close to 3 years old); & 4 young layers in a 3rd coop.
Only 1 Black Penedesenca was laying, she has stopped since I switched her coop a couple of weeks ago. I don't think the new coop gets as much light as the old coop. I have 3 white leghorns in that same coop, they were laying when I first got them,at Christmas, but have stopped since I moved the Black Penedesencas in there. This coop has no added light.
I have 5 EE & 2 RIR & 1 (not to standard) Black Penedesenca in a second unlighted coop. In the 3rd & oldest coop I have 2 Black Austrolorps, 3 Iowa? Blues ( I can't remember what the first part is, but they are black hens) (1 of the Austrolorps & all 3 Blues aren't laying yet that I know of). In that coop I also have 6 RIR, some of which are really backyard mixes (RIR/Black sex link), some of these hens are 3 years old.
I got 5 eggs today.
You sound like me. I have 8 housing units in 5 buildings.

ChickenCanoe, she was a 9 month old DL Barnevelder.
Sorry you lost her. Nice to hear a Barny is laying dark eggs though. Do you know why she died?

Or more like coats, galoshes, and earmuffs! I live in SC too and it has been cold wet and muddy today. Everything is ice!!! But my poor chickens stay outside until night in 20-30 F weather! I don't understand it.
Well, that's not really cold for chickens. A few nights ago, one of my hens decided she didn't want to go inside to sleep and perched herself on the peak of the roof in the snow. It got down to 8F.

A lady in our local chicken group has had chickens about 3 years, has a nice big coop and predator proof covered run. Her chickens have never slept in the coop, opting to sleep on the roost in the open run regardless of temperature.

My 2nd Black Penedesenca pullet laid her 1st egg today! Woot, woot!
5 eggs today.

Just one, the first one.

I wrapped my run in plastic and it turned into a sunroom no wind no snow..They are digging bugs in the warm corners . I'm getting eggs. They go into the coop to roost and seem comfy at night. We have a barn style coop with hay and shavings. The they are laying in a nest in the hay instead of the nests we made.
We filed big cracks in the walls and covered the bottom sill area of the coop for the winter with spare wood to prevent big winds from freezing them at night. So far they are ok.
We have one molting so seems naked and keeping warm in this environment. In the chip I have a 5 gallon bucket with nipples and auto heater in it. They love it . Keeping water from freezing.
