How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

7 eggs from the free range chickens

Temp 74F degrees and overcast with light winds

and it is not even Spring yet ....

I haven't any idea the reason for the high egg count today

How are your chickens doing after the bath have you had any returning creatures ???


I try to give the live stock a bath before selling as there tends to be sand bugs here in the summer but they go dormant when the temp drop below 100F degrees and the creatures just seem to crawl on what ever but I have never noticed any bit marks or egg laying under the skin but I just can not take any chances ......

Kind of disappointed in my girls today. I had a run of 11, 11, 9, 8 and then yesterday was a 6. I didn't collect yesterday as I was running around all day and I went out this morning and got 1 warm egg and 6 cool ones. Come on girls!

I got 12 yesterday really pleased with the girls I have been getting 9 to 10 a day. They are improving daily

Kind of disappointed in my girls today.  I had a run of 11, 11, 9, 8 and then yesterday was a 6.  I didn't collect yesterday as I was running around all day and I went out this morning and got 1 warm egg and 6 cool ones.  Come on girls!

Awe don't be disappointed in a half day. They all need a break sometimes, everyone once in a while mine line up like that and take a break on the same day. Just tells me the next 2-3 days will be extra good

9 so far today... But I now have 30!!!! New babies in my brooder but I've NOT even hit day 7 on the incubator holding 64 eggs. My husband said happy anniversary and had me pick out MORE chicks this morning.

How many do you have total?
I only have 6 and could probably estimate fairly closely as to what days I'll have 6 or 5 or less. Not exactly of course but close. I imagine most of the people with 12 or more chickens and regularly get max eggs have either heavy layer, or mostly all first year laying pullets. Only 3 of mine are heavy layers 2 moderate layers and 1 new layer still laying moderatly. Even before the last started laying I was only getting a full hual 1-2 times a week. I would guess with 12 or more laying hens even a full haul once a week would be pretty rare. If I had 6 more that laided just like the 6 I have now I would guess I would be lucky to see a full haul one a month.

It will happen someday for you. I'll cross my fingers that's it's soon. But just remember it might not be often unless you remove some of the lighter layers for more heavy layers.


I should have 4 today (3 so far) possibly 6 tomorrow or Saturday but 2 of my heavy lays are up to 7 days (including today) in a row already and should be taking a break soon. It would be sad but I'm sure they could all take a day off together too if things lined up right
