I am so sorry you lost another one, any good ideas how they get in or what? weasels like to kill many
and rarely enjoy a kill.
This last one was killed in the big enclosed yard that they range in. This particular yard goes into the woods and is not covered over the top. It's too big of an area to be feasible for us to cover. I am thinking that this hen had not gone in the coop when the others did and that a raccoon or something went over or through the fence ( cattle panels covered on the lower half with chicken wire. The chicken wire is more to keep the chickens IN, than to keep things out.) around dusk. I went out around 8:30 to lock up the coops before I took my daughter somewhere. I had told her I needed to lock up because it was already very dark & I knew we would be gone for a while. Since nothing had finished cleaning out her insides, I think that I must have inadvertently chased off whatever it was when I went out to lock the coop, but did not see her because it was very dark by then and she was down near the back side of the fence. That side of the fence is a little ways into the woods and down a slight hill. The next day when I got home from school I went out to check on everybody and noticed that she was missing. The leaves under her body were dry and it had been raining since sometime during the night.

That's the best I can figure out so far.

Sounds like you have arrived at the beginning of your summer temperatures! Time to make sure your swamp mister is in good working order! It won't be too much longer before you'll be needing to turn it on. 14 eggs is a great egg count!

Oh darn are you catching anything on your trail cam ?

Nothing yet. The critter(s) seems to have an uncanny ability to attack the yard that the trail cam in NOT IN! I did see something low & longish walking in my neighbors pasture the night that I think the last hen died. I couldn't get close enough fast enough to figure out what it was, but it's eyes glowed yellow. Maybe a cat? Could be a fox, I know they are around, but we've never seen evidence of any other than dead on the road a few miles away.

@karenerwin Trail cam in order for sure. Good luck.

Yesterday while I was cleaning the coop and run, changing water, freshening feed, etc I found 7 of 7, but one was the smallest egg I've ever had one of my girls lay. What the heck?! lol! I took a pic with another one of my pullet's eggs in my hand with it for size comparison, and then my son's home support worker cracked it open so I could take a pic. It has the tiniest yolk in it and has the white.
