Temp Monday was a miserable day with some low heave cloud cover but very low winds and Tuesday morning the skys were clear and in the low 40's with the hill tops coverer in snow so it snowed down to 2500 Feet and that is getting rather close when the Argues mountains have snow have snow and few of them go up to 3000 feet rarely have snow and the last time I can remember was in 2010 . I am thinking this just might be a really cold winter for us this year even in the day time we have had almost 10 days this year where it has been in the low 40's all day it is like being in an ice age for us as we have one week after another where in gets in the 120's all day but it will drop to 110 at the coldest part of the nights .

karenerwin, that is a nice egg count you have and I had a problem with thin shells but I just put some crushed egg shells into the feed and end of problem ..

I am sorry for not being on here every day but I have been experiencing computer problems that I attribute to the freezing weather .

3 eggs...well almost. We got 3 eggs but one cracked due to soft shell/ shell less. But that was out of 3 hens! So everyone did an ok job today! (just trying to get those calcium levels up and going)

Hahaha... I always look at those and wonder long and hard whether or not I want to put in the energy to clean it or just give it to the dog. My dog has the shiniest and softest coat due to all the raw eggs she eats. : )

It was actually really clean! I use the tray method under the roosts, where the tray has an inch or 2 of Sweet PDZ. I scoop it every other day. Luckily the egg wasn't layed in a huge pile of poop anyway.

2 from 6 but one of my silkies is broody. Accidentally smashed one but it has gone into their soup ha ha. The daylight hours are short and the ex batts are moulting but did not rescue them just for eggs so am OK with whatever I get.

3/3! It was a huge surprise because before today only one girl had been laying, and we definitely didn't expect the two others to start at the same time

You got some hard working girls there

Yeah thanks. All 5 of my girls were laying by 19 weeks and from 20 weeks on, they have given me at least 32 eggs a week. Some of the early eggs were soft shelled or deformed, but were still tasty. My red sex-links sure are hard workers. I'm very happy I chose them. They will be 10 months old on the 30th. GC
