Chicken eggs 13

Temp Monday was a miserable day with some low heave cloud cover but very low winds and Tuesday morning the skys were clear and in the low 40's with the hill tops coverer in snow so it snowed down to 2500 Feet and that is getting rather close when the Argues mountains have snow have snow and few of them go up to 3000 feet rarely have snow and the last time I can remember was in 2010 . I am thinking this just might be a really cold winter for us this year even in the day time we have had almost 10 days this year where it has been in the low 40's all day it is like being in an ice age for us as we have one week after another where in gets in the 120's all day but it will drop to 110 at the coldest part of the nights .

karenerwin, that is a nice egg count you have and I had a problem with thin shells but I just put some crushed egg shells into the feed and end of problem ..

I am sorry for not being on here every day but I have been experiencing computer problems that I attribute to the freezing weather .
Hi Gander, wow! 13 eggs!! Your hens must be loving those cooler temps, even though you aren't!

I have been surprised that we have been having such a mild winter, everyone was saying it was going to be really bad. Of course, winter isn't over yet, and I may have just jinxed us here in the midwest...

but, I hope not. I had 6 eggs laid today, but only collected 4. Again, there was only evidence of the other 2. I did put out oyster shell last night, so hopefully that will help. I can definitely see that the days are getting longer, so that should surely help with egg counts.
I'll be back out at my parent's house this weekend, the movers come to move some things into storage. Then 2 weekends after that the estate cleanout people come and clean out the rest of the house. Then we give it a real good cleaning and hopefully it sells right away!!

Yeah thanks. All 5 of my girls were laying by 19 weeks and from 20 weeks on, they have given me at least 32 eggs a week. Some of the early eggs were soft shelled or deformed, but were still tasty. My red sex-links sure are hard workers. I'm very happy I chose them. They will be 10 months old on the 30th. GC

I have 3 sexlinks (golden comets) & they lay my biggest eggs. The smallest one lays extra jumbo eggs. Her eggs prevent the egg carton from shutting completely. Boy what a problem to have!

They also lay 6 to 7 days days a week. Definitely a productive & hardy hen. I must admit though, my RIR performs just as well.

I've only gotten maybe 6 over 77 grams/2 3/4 ounces. But they are all mine. Only 2 were double yolks. My 3.35 ounce was a single yolk, 2 inches across and very tasty. GC
