Are they on good layer crumbles with oyster shell on the side and have good nesting boxes with grass hay or straw for bedding?
Seems like when I pick up my girls and place them inside the nesting boxes after I had just finished building them, they seemed to get right to work and used them as soon as they became laying age. Like as if they knew exactly what they were for.
In a way, it's amazing what chickens will do for us just because we feed them and love them! Even the ones who get no love in commercial operations. But with my girls who are spoiled rotten pets who have the run of almost 1/2 acre, it's pretty impressive that they go back to the barn to pay rent rather than be brats and go hide them under a bush..................... KNOCK ON WOOD!
