I have 7 hens and today found 7 eggs, a common occurrence.

Yesterday something strange happened. I went to get the eggs out of the nesting boxes and in one of the boxes not only did I not find eggs, but also the two ceramic eggs that I keep in each box to prevent the hens from laying elsewhere (it happened before) were missing--or so I thought at first. Then I realized that both the fake eggs and a real one had been covered with the hay I use to line the boxes. This had never happened before. Is it normal for hens to cover their eggs?

Sometimes the eggs get covered in the process of the hen(s) scratching around to "make a good nest" to lay their egg in.
