How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Sorry to hear that @bald Rooster. I had to put down my favorite hen last summer for the same reason, bloody mess and clearly she was not going to recover. She was 5 years old and the only eggs she laid last year were shell-less. She was my best layer in prior years and the bird with the most personality.

I got 2! That little faverolles hasn't skipped a day.:)
That purple egg is gorgeous, what did that come from?

I think the camera made it look that way; it looks pinker than in RL; I'm not sure who laid that one. I've got a mix of araucana (eggers), australorp, cemani, marans, and who knows what else. Several of them came from eggs that were given me to hatch by a friend and were mixed prior to me getting them, but her stock were a motley assortment of purebreds, some were greenfire. The light ones are probably from one of the eggers or australorp mixes. My cemani girls, even the ones that don't present pure, lay cream colored eggs. They started laying right after I got the ones in that picture.

Unfortunately, I lost 2 of my best layers and our favorite roo to a predator Friday. Heather the roo had been leading them into the woods and 2 of them I would shoo back to the fenced area, while one is smart enough to take over Laos and I don't worry about her. The 4 of them would go out every am (or try to.) I had to be gone, so when I got home I found piles of white Heather feathers and the carcases of Heather and one of my favorite hens (olive egger Ravi.) I never found Pepsi. Heather's sister, the crazy jungle hen that went out first every day and came back last was safe inside the enclosure. I figured she escaped and got to safety while the others were panicking. None of the chu have ventured outside the palace walls since, even crazy jungle hen, except late when I open the gate, to forage on the adjacent greenery. I take that back… there are a couple of rogues, male and female - Greybie and L'Orange that sneak through a hole every am and back every pm to roost and fraternize with the yard birds. But they don't go into the jungle.
