Apparently 1 per day with 4 girls laying is what I am to expect. Today it was Betty, she is a Welsummer.

Same here! My girls are 23 weeks now. Not sure if you saw my other tag of you but the BCM you thought was a roo when he was little is actually a pullet so pleased as means I have 1 blue and one black can't wait for the first egg, I'm not going to do lights so figure it will be after solstice now!

Nice that I was wrong with my gender assessment with your Marans. I wish I was wrong with mine but not (out of 22 chicks I hatch mid July 14 are Roosters, so I’ve got to send them packing for freezer camp soon, they are are starting to dominate and terrorize the young hens population. I kept one from my May hatched after processing 5.

I've not been around much with the Christmas market last weekend then hubby working madly on getting our car fixed up to pass the test! Market went well and car passed so huge relief!

Oh that is rotten luck! The lady I got some of my eggs from said you get some hatches or even whole years like that then the next time it will be the other way around! Lets hope you get a whole heap of pullets in the spring! Let me know how the marans tastes!

Gender in chickens is determined by the hen. It would be interesting to find out if a given hen was more likely to produce one gender than the other. If so, you might be able to "tilt" your hatches toward a favored gender.

4 pullets laying, still getting about 1 per day total. Found a Vienna (Barred Rock) egg in the nest at about 10:30 (when I finally dragged out there in the 5°F temp, up from -8°F). Aria (Barnevelder) was in the box so maybe today will be a 2 egg day.
