How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I have 8 hens and was getting approximately 6 eggs a day -I got rid of my overly aggressive rooster and am only getting approximately 3 eggs a day ... do they miss him? He was tearing up their backs and combs, you’d think they would be relieved he’s gone

Some hens will slow down anytime there is a major change. They'll pick back up after they adjust.

Yep! I've snuck chicks to broody hens many times. I just don't know if this broody is a willing participate! I just went out and put 1 chick under her. I stood out there in the dark (and rain) for 5+minutes and she wasn't attacking & didn't seem concerned. So I'm not sure if she is not interested or is just real chill with the whole thing. If she takes this one and doesn't have any problems when it is daylight, I will slip her the other 2 tomorrow night.

Well yesterday when I got home from work I found the chick that had been under the broody, out on the coop floor. It appeared to be dead, but when I picked it up it moved just a little. I brought it in the house and worked on warming it up. I was heating a towel in the dryer to wrap it in when I remembered that I have eggs in the incubator. :smack So I put the chick in the incubator. I went down 20 minutes later and gave it a little water (dripping it on the side of the beak). It drank some! :ya I repeated that a few times and by bedtime it was a lot better! I was going to put it back out in the brooder (NOT with the broody) but when I took it out there it seemed to be getting stepped on/ run over, so I put it back in the incubator over night with some water with vitamins and a bit of food. This morning I placed it in the brooder before I left for work. This evening it is still holding it's own! :celebrate It seems like it has a bit of a hurt leg/wing (based on how it is moving ) but doesn't seem like anything is broken.
Hopefully, it will be able to bounce back completely :fl

Oh, I got 15 eggs today.

I’ve been kind of scared about slipping-in a newly hatched chicks under a broody after hatching 24 chicks last year and placing 2 of them under a broody hen with 5 eggs hatching under her. She rejected the 2 and injured them and yet took care of her own 5. The 2 survived with leg injury, now 8 months old.
