Very sad on both counts! I REALLY hope the Welsummer doesn't have Marek's. REALLY REALLY. Because if she does the others very likely do as well. And it can live outside the birds for years in the soil which makes it nearly impossible to get rid of once you've got it on your land.

One egg today from 4 hens. 69 grams.

I got 11 today. It looks like 10 out of 15 is going to be my average for a while.

4 today, 1 got broken by the Jersey Giant who laid it. She tried to lay inside an empty feed bag and got stuck! I had them in the nest boxes as litter liners but, naturally, took them out IMMEDIATELY after freeing poor Raven and Layla, a Marans who got tangled in the bag with her! I’m so lucky they didn’t strangle themselves! My egg eaters in timeout laid 2 of today’s 4 eggs. I let them keep them, hoping they will recognize that THAT coop is the broody coop. This brings their total (3 days) clutch to 7. I doubt they will actually brood though, even my Cochins seem to be hardworking egg-tossers, not broodies. Maybe Ideal breeds that out of theirs. Maybe I’m just clueless.

17. New record. Not getting many eggs from our two Buttercups. Maybe four a week total. It does look like more of the pullets are starting to lay. 32 that should be laying. Two broody Cochins, though. Must still be some not laying ( and those two slacker Buttercups)

i wonder what the deal is with their eggs are though - i thought people were eggsagerating (so sorry) about how yellow and 'solid' and tasty they are. is it because they forage in the garden all day? they make store-bought eggs look like a watery mess. so yellow and fluffy. i don't even like the whites but even those had fluffiness and flavour. eggs eggs eggs

Yes, the great golden/orange color of the yolk is directly linked to what they eat! The "not so watery" whites is because they are so fresh!!
