8 today. Debating the future of my flock. Good egg layers, popular for sale in my area (RIR) and what I want to add. Hard decisions coming after vacation. That’s when I’m getting serious about hatching again. It’s amazing how the RIRs flew out of here. Pullets, cockerels, it didn’t matter. Folks in MS love some Rhode Island Reds. I have zero. I’ll have to start from scratch again. When people wanted to buy them, I couldn’t say no so I sold all my potential breeding stock.

How many chickens do you have room for?

It depends on which standard you go by. If it’s 3 sqft per chicken, then about 40 chickens. Personally I feel like my coop is full and I’m not adding any more to this coop. I have 26 chickens in my 12x12. Before I add more, I will be building another coop. I have a 6,500 sqft run expansion in progress. When that’s finished I’ll build another coop attached to that with the option to partition it between the coops.

Well the broody is still being stupid, she's very close to going into the cooking pot. I dont have time for her drama and other stupid things she's pulling. I changed her water out this morning, like I do every morning, and afternoon, and she started screaming like I was tearing her insides out with her still alive. This is the second time she did this. That's not going to fly, she's destined to be stew real soon here.

The other chickens actually come running over to see WTF. They stood there staring at her, looking at me, I was like, don't look at ME I am not the one being stupid here. Why can't they just behave and lay eggs?
