My Muscovy still gave me a big one again so I was happy to get that.

None of the 7 layers. Most are still molting and the youngsters have not started yet. All the rain and gray days do not help.

3 today, Mei, Juin and Août.

Juillet is done laying for a while I think, it’s been over a week, and her personality is back to what it was before she started laying. When she was a chick she wasn’t food motivated at all, but as soon as she hit puberty she became desperate to search for grubs and worms. Now she will pick up worms and toss them aside, and she hardly does any scratching, preferring to half-heartedly nibble on grass. Her lack of interest in worms alarmed me at first, but she’s eating enough feed and has a ton of energy, so I guess she’s feeling good!

Mei was also feeling good today. She got her sunbath at last!

Thanks! It keeps threatening rain here but misses us every time

When I grew up in Georgia (1950s-60s in the Marietta/Kennesaw area), February & March were the months we could expect a little snow and definitely some sleet/ice storms. (Always a wet Christmas, never a white one! Januarys were cold & wet, too.) I remember Mom cooking in the fireplace for days after some bad ice storms knocked down power lines all over the place, while we bundled up in sleeping bags near the hearth. Seemed to happen about once a winter, sometimes twice, in Feb/March.

Is that weather pattern still normal in your area? Or maybe you're south of there...

Mei was also feeling good today. She got her sunbath at last!

My girls had their chance Sunday, a whole sunny day between storms, and they were sprawled around enjoying it. [Wish I'd taken pictures but I was so muddy from frenzied yard work, I didn't bring my phone outside.]

Ooops, forgot:

SIX eggs today , first time in awhile; maybe they're inspired by the longer days even though it's mostly been gray and wet. (Randomly, one was a little pullet egg...wonder if it was Pauline the Buff, Rhonda the RIR or Sheila the Australorp? Everyone else's eggs I could identify. Slacker!)

I made them a new dustbath in a deep plastic tray, under the tarp-draped folding table in their big run. Their usual ones under the coop are all soggy from water seeping up from the saturated soil and wet chickens rolling around in them. Hope this one stays reasonably dry, the lighter girls have mud stains on their feathers from wallowing in the damp "dust".
