8 yesterday!

I've been so lucky with actually seeing my girls lay over the past few days that now I have a bead on who is laying what egg all except for 1 -- see the elongated gray egg? YEAH ITS GRAY, how bizarre but it's this really desaturated olive over white -- it's been that way since the first egg -- they are elongated, thinner than the others and this strange gray color. I love them

But I have every bird witnessed to laying all the eggs except that one and one bird so by process of elimination, that is Custard's egg! Though she is *wily* and I've never seen her sit a nest let alone lay lolol (also she is an Easter Egger so very likely this color instead of brown)

I love how different they all are, how some are fast and some take their time and how *all* of them were batty little freaks with the nests and would mess them up UNTIL they started laying and then they were prim little princesses and arrange them so nicely lol

None today! :)

We had our first frost yesterday morning, and it was cold today as well, so perhaps it affected their hormones. It certainly affected their appetites! They are eating every bit of their food now, instead of being picky and leaving the split peas and flax meal.
Same here! They are eating their feed more now.

Still early to do a total count. But a mystery has been solved thanks to my frizzle silkie hen Curly. She was diligently watching one particular spot and I figured Mrs Little Chicken had to be there - sure enough.

Final count of 13 eggs (not including the 9 I found of Mrs LC), again one was brittle and the wee silkie egg which I keep for our consumption.

It's like an Easter egg hunt here these days! That's part of the fun, finding them in new places. Mind you the middle of the Hen House floor is rather tricky! Lucky I didn't step on it!
