That's gorgeous! What do turkey eggs taste like?
Their diet seems pretty good. The one thing I would try is maybe reducing the amount of treats and scraps they get so they can eat more of the layer.Good info, thank you. They have free access to oyster shell, their egg shells are thick. We feed Scratch & Peck organic layer mash plus plants like wheatgrass that we grow for them since there are no plants to forage (desert), grubs, sprouted seeds, and various treats.
What's the reason for rocks in the nesting boxes? They have wooden eggs I hoped would deter pecking and eating.
I hope they aren't bored. They have plenty of space and a cluttered coop and even parrot toys.
The house next to ours is being remodeled. Their pens aren't close to it but I wonder if the noise is stressful to them? They seem unperturbed by things like fireworks and car alarms, though. They even sleep right through them.

The rocks do the same thing as the fake eggs. I just don’t happen to have fake eggs but I do have a lot of rocks that look like eggs.
It could be boredom but it seems like that isn’t a factor here.
You are doing everything right. The key is ensuring they have free access to feed no matter what. For your mash, does it go bad towards the end of the day? Mine does so I ensure they have access to the pellets themselves alongside soaked feed. Also, layer feed is designed to be a complete diet. While I do encourage supplementing with scraps and other food. The majority of their diet should be the layer feed. It's hard to gauge how much we should supply in plants and grubs to make up for what they're missing in the desert. If they were foraging in a grassy field or backyard they'd just eat the bugs and plants they need. We don't have any topsoil so this sand is what they're on all day.

Plenty of natural grit and dust baths, though!
They seem to inhale the layer mash but it's always available. We've been giving them some salmon to help them through their molt. Of course they act like they're starving any time we walk near the pens.![]()
I didn't get to eat it. The turkey is my daughter's so she ate the egg. She said was the best egg she's ever eaten. If we get another one that's going to be mine. I was very surprised she even laid since it's January in Pennsylvania it's been cold. Was a very nice surprise. That's gorgeous! What do turkey eggs taste like?
