How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Gosh Sky I hope it all goes okay over there 🤞

15 eggs yesterday, looks like 12 today

Lost 2 chicks this morning; got 2 for free so even though it was JUST after the 72 hour guarantee I didn't lose out. They were *expensive chicks* It looks like they wandered out from under the heat plate and just died -- one had it's neck pulled back, head touching its back. Is that wry neck? Completely unfamiliar with that. The other one just looked like it laid down and died.

Kinda a bummer but, honestly I don't want weak chickens in my flock, so darwin can darwin. They were both Ayam Ketawa chicks from what I can tell.

The rest seem fine. The ducklings are HUGE haha and now they all LOVE each other, which is super cute.

@thistlewick
Sorry that your baby chicks passed.

Thank you. I just hope that by the time the cyclone reaches land it might slow down or lost all its momentum as it takes so many days to reach land. Although the weather reports says if that that happened, we will still get so much rain & wind that flooding is unavoidable....huh...one just can get a break!

It was super windy yesterday and so far this morning, just mild light wind....might be the cyclone run off course. Let hope so.

I had a little Bresse pullet that had the back of its head touching its back and I treated daily for wry neck and now you would never know it looking at her. She is one of my better layers giving 5 eggs a week at least.

I got 15 eggs today. 8 of them were from 8 C C Legbar pullets I bought last July. Both Bresse girls laid today and all three of the larger Sapphire Girls laid too. Both Andalusia girls laid also. They are going on 3 years old now.

6 eggs today! That’s everyone in my flock! Good job girlies!:wee

I’m actually unsure of whose is whose this time. The giant egg, the speckled egg and the pale-ish one right below it are really the ones in question. All three must be Marans eggs. My guess is that big egg is Juillet, pale egg is Helmi and speckled egg is Août, but my husband begs to differ. I’m just grateful to have them :)

3 eggs yesterday.

Mint still not over her crop issue, but she poops a bit here and there and they are grasses. I massage her crop every few hours, she eat mashed feed soaked in water. It is slow, but moving forward, today is her 4th day. She eats and drinks, closed her eyes and wanting to get out of sick base.

A cyclone is heading our way and will make landfall this Thursday, so the whole state is running mad buying supply. Personally, I will bake a few load of breads, boil a handful of eggs, get some cooked beans in can and drinking water. If electricity goes out, we just eat those and peanut butter. They are protein and fiber.

I have been clearing out the shed so that 7 of my chickens can be housed in there, and the other 6 will be in the garage. I am expecting my chicken houses will airborne if the cycle is as big as it has been reporting on TV.

If it is that bad, my garage will be flooded.....Nothing much can be done except to weather it out.
I hope you and your flock stay safe, SkyAJK! ❤️

Thank you Winderdear.

Half of my flock will be in the shed and another half in the garage with my 2 dogs. The 4 bantams will live in my kitchen during the cyclone . My fear is the cyclone loud noise, I was told that it is very loud, scarily loud.

I went to get some sandbags and the queue was over 2 streets long. I will come back tonight to collect some sand bags, it is open 24 hours.

Another 15 egg day yesterday, thought it was going to be 12 but I got some busy girls in the afternoon.

We are currently building a run for them, so they can go out at dawn into some more daylight from the hen house and so we can go on vacation!!

It is 8x16 (128 sq feet) so not enough for permanent housing, but we don't intend that - they free range every day all day.

We also want to create an extension out the side and back (a LARGE one) that is open air-top. What I was wondering is, how do you predator proof beyond hawk netting? Won't a raccoon just rip that to shreds? Or will they get netted up in it if trying to crawl down from the top?

Work-In-Progress:

I think the 3 middle ones are your Marans eggs, don't they all lay dark eggs?

You would think so, but the pale one at the bottom is actually darker on one end. It just has a ton of bloom on it, which happens with Juillet’s (my Cuckoo Marans) eggs from time to time. The darkest egg is from my Welsummer, and looks like all of her eggs have so far.

All of my girls are hatchery quality and none are BCMs, so their eggs are medium brown at best.

My BCM is in her 3rd year of laying and she's obviously running out of "ink" in her "toner bay," lol. Sometimes I get a perfect chocolate egg from her. But other times I get a brown egg with dark chocolate splotches all over. Or just a brown speckled one.
