I don't sell mine I trade a doz for a bottle of wine from my neighbor. I have 5 chicks. I think I need more chicks. lol

One of the first things a new customer notices and says something about when they get their first dozen eggs is how much heavier the carton of eggs are and when they open it up to inspect the eggs they always are surprised at how large they actually are. I really think mine are extra-large but if you compare them to WallyWorld or any supermarket they're really more like jumbos or bigger. About three months ago when the new pullets started laying we were getting a bunch of smaller eggs that I just didn't think I could sell to my customers for $3.00 a dozen so I put them in the foam cartons and sold them for $2.00 because I thought they just weren't worth the full price. But now looking back and comparing those to the ones they sell commercially I should be selling my normal eggs for $4.00/Dz and if I get any of the 'smalls' they should be priced at $3.00/dz. But right now I'll sell all I can get to my co-workers and keep my price as is. One of them took his eggs by his father's little country store near Winston-Salem, NC recently and now he wants me to bring him in all my excess (as if I have any right now) and he'll buy them for $3.00 and sell them for $4.00/dz. I'd have to build another $800 coop and probably have to expand the run to do that so I'm not too keen on doing it right now but I'm going to think on it... It is a good time to be a chicken wrangler here in Central NC right now!

DH is on his way back to work after being off for the last 12 days. He has 6 dozen to deliver to 3 customers; $3/dozen. He gave one dozen to the neighbor's son who may be interested in buying fresh eggs. The girls did good this week...7 dozen...a new record.

You say that you weigh your cartons? Where and what kind of scale can I get?​

I have a sticky pad next to the scale in the kitchen. When I bring eggs in, I weigh each one and record who laid it ('unknown' if I don't recognize the egg and was not there to see who laid it) and how much it weighed then the sticky note is dated with the current date.

At the end of the day I use the # of eggs for BYC thread "How many eggs today", then pull that sticky off and put in my chicken notebook where I keep a running total of how many eggs I've collected thus far that month...also record how many I give away, try to tithe at the least 10% but thus far it has been more than that.

Am planning to make a chart to see how the various breeds production compares.

At this time I'm planning to get 25 more sex links chicks next spring and hatching eggs for French Black Copper Marans and Ameraucanas so my egg carton will have a variety of colors.

I made a sign and posted it out near the road next to our house and I was amazed at how quickly I sold them! I sold 12 dozen eggs in 2 days and had to take my sign down! People really love the farm fresh eggs!
