How many eggs does a turkey hen produce in a season?

My greatest fear too! Only DH is the one who would not be too happy!

Great hatching job!!!

I just joined BYC and I was happy to see the post about the turkey eggs! My turkey just started laying within the last two weeks. Not sure if she is laying everyday because I just found her laying spot. I'm hoping she will continue all year round. We live in a mild climate so not sure if the winter months will affect that or not. I'm hoping I continue to get as many eggs as Steve does :). I'll keep you posted.

how many toms to hens do you keep ?

i have heard you have to keep one tom to 1 hen

No, Only if you just have 1 hen! This has been a hot issue around here, or so I have read. Some say a ratio of 1tom to 10 hens, some saw different, one lady only kept 1 tom and he did not do his job, but I would never advise just keeping 1 tom or roo or drake, etc. I always keep a spare, just to make sure. Anything could happen to him and then you're SOL! I had 2 hens last year and 13 this year. Out of the 14 toms, I have left, 2 are for Christmas, a friend needs a tom for his hen, she's a black widow, he says, she has outlived 2 toms and this will be her 3rd! LOL I will select 2 that are really nice large meaty chested toms and one has extremely great charm with the ladies and the rest will be harvested for meat. I also heard that only 1 tom should put in a pasture or pen, with your hens, at a time, one in the morning and then to change them around and put a different tom with the hens in the afternoon, to ensure the best fertility. Two toms, together, has a better chance of fights breaking out and then the hens might not get serviced at all. Maybe someone would like to comment on this, but it makes sense to me.
