How Many Eggs Should I Have Each Day?

Hello, I am new to raising and caring for chickens. I have 8 hens that came with the property and 2 that were given to me by some one moving. I get about 4-6 eggs a day. I know that not every hen will lay every day. However, I am concerned that a couple of the hens are too old to be laying any longer. Is there a way to determine if a hen is laying? I can only think of putting each one in a cage and watching them for a few days. However, this just is not feasible for my set up.

How old are the two?
The two reds are about 2-3 years old. The person I trust the person I go those two from about the age. I know that they are laying, at least when they were separated one laid every morning and the second every other evening, and she bought them at the same time, don't know what it is called but they were both older than chicks but just starting to lay. The original 8, the previous owner has given me ages from 8 years to a couple of years. She told me they were purchased from different people at different times.

Watch them and see who goes in the nest boxes, and then you will know. Also, where do you live, and what kind of weather are you having? In very hot weather, egg production may slow down.
