How many here have parrots?

Quote:
Conures are loud, especially Sun & Nandays. If your hubby can't handle a parakeet
or cockatiel just forget about a conure or parrot. There is no comparison.

There is a quiet Conure, I forget the name. I have a friend who has them and
I may see her tonight. I'll ask her. Trouble is parakeets and cockatiels are
relativiley quiet birds. I know there are exceptions to this.

You can borrow Vinny for a few days. Return her when your husband files
for divorce, just don't let him hurt her.

A happy bird is usually a talkative or noisy one.

Most Conures are noisy. If you are thinking a small parrot, Senegal's can be a nice choice. The one I had was quiet, the only loud sound he made was a shrill that sounded like a fan belt squealing. He didn't do it very often and it was mostly an alarm sound if someone was at the door. He had a funny voice, his speach sounded almost computer like. They are small birds with a large parrot attitude. He was sure he was as big as the Amazons.

To tell you the truth the only cockatiel I ever had drove me nuts. He just made the same sound over and over again. My husband said it sounded like he was saying. "I got lice in my nighty."

Thanks....I'll have to check them out. Ozzie has several things he'll say...if he's in the mood. My grandson was tickled the other day because Ozzie finally talked to him.

Chickerdoodle,

Your Angel looks like my Oscar! He's a mean little guy though, he loves my mom and sister, but totally hates me,lol. He says Hello and Meows just like a cat.

I have a pic somewhere, but its lost forever in one of my 3 Photobucket accounts.

I used to have too ...

I was owned by a Moluccan cockatoo who was quite the character, but too jealous when I had a baby.

I have raised and had a number of cockatiels over the years, some of which had large vocabularies, and some did fun tricks. One was potty-trained to her cage.

I used to raise Indian ringnecks too, and lots of finches (not parrots, but I had to mention them too). Had some parakeets as well.

Oh, about that small quiet bird ... I've been out of touch with the fancy for a while, but I met the COOLEST little bird one time that I wanted so badly. He was a Hahn's macaw (miniature). He was quiet, and had that puppy-type personality that macaws are famous for. He learned tricks quickly too. I loved that little bird, and had always wanted one after that. I don't know how common they are these days, but mini-macaws might be a great choice for someone wanting a small hookbill.

I have a macaw, her name is Dahli. She is 18 years old, she has lived with us since she was 4. Someone bought her at a pet store, kept her for one month then did not want her anymore. She came to live with us. She is loud, she makes a big mess with her food and her poops. I am her defender as she scares everyone as she has a big beak, but she is part of our family
