Just wondering what the statistics are, not from a book but the real owners of RIRs.

and what about wyandottes? I used to love them cause I thought they were a broody breed, but thats not as true as I thought is it?

Btw, not that it matters... Im totally on your side about the "8 week old layers"

and thanks for the reply. So how many RIRs do you have?
and im guessin SLWs from your avatar lol

I had one go broody. Even the rare White Leghorn will go broody occasionally, so you never know. Even though broodiness had been bred out so much, it seems to pop back up sometimes.

yeah, there was a thread about a Leghorn sitting, they said she would run off the nest when they went too close though. I never got to see pictures of the babies though

LOL....there's a joke being played on somebody!! Those don't even look like chicken eggs!!

I've only got 6 hens and a roo....."real" RIR, not hatchery which I think probably makes a difference in whether they'll go broody or not. I'm going to be selling them tho because I need their pen for some of my other birds.....Unless I decide to build another pen!!

I've got BLRWs, BBS Wyandottes and SLWs. My SLWs aren't old enough to lay quite yet tho. I have the most trouble with my BLRWs going broody.

Katy, I know! They look like ringneck eggs!

Oh so yours are the show quality kind of birds? Its really sad- I have never seen a red hen in my life that wasnt production..

And I might try some BLRWs, they are really pretty.

nivtup- how many chickens do you have? Im trying to go by I have ___ hens and out of those ____ hens have gone broody. lol

I had 2 old production reds one time, and I think one of them went broody the morning I sold them. BAD LUCK.

Mine have NEVER gone broody and I have been having them for 2 years. If they would go broody, I would think that someone was playing a sick joke on me. I don't expect to see that in my lifetime.
