Note that I did not say End of the World. I merely said civil unrest/social destabilization......

The SHTF scenario is a personal thing. I think it already has hit the fan for alot of people. And unrest does not mean collapse, just potential serious problems. I am with wifezilla in being prepared. When I hear major storm coming I sit back and wait. I don't have 2 years worth of food!

I am really curious about this as the more people that believe it is possible the more likely it becomes.

It already is happening. Not like most of the respondents think, but ask the millions that are out of work or have had to start living on 1/3 of their prior earnings. To me that is social destabilization. It will continue to get much worse in the next few years. We have had a 2 year break. It's back to business starting January 1st. Those that keep this country alive will be paying the price for a while.

I don't think we'll ever see actual social rebellion. We may see some wacko groups like the one in Waco and they will meet the same fate. Those will be small and isolated. There is not enough organization in America. The 99ers number in the millions but can't get organized enough to make anyone care about their plight. We may see another MLK type leader that could rally enough poor people to march on Washington during the next administration and demand some monetary equality. Some may even have guns. It will all be easily squelched by the guys with the real firepower though. Hopefully those guys will refuse to shoot down the masses of poor people though.

In the end the masses will accept a lower standard of living. Income disparity will be even worst than it is now and politicians and radio personalities will continue to brain wash the masses. Business as usual.

You're right dunk that part is already happening, but you don 't think its possible for there to be a real take to the streets kind of unrest??

The Stand gave me so many plague nightmares - I keep a 6 month supply of soup making materials in my pantry at all times. In case of quarentine.

This is actually pretty cheap to do if you go to Aldi's. dried beans / rice / boullion / canned vegies

I think people are more concerned with the latest "celeb gossip" than things that directly influence us like politics. So an uprising, i don't think there is ENOUGH people.
