"She" has never been sexed, came to me when she was 13 with the name Lady so we kept it. (She's also never laid an egg, though she does nest). She HATES men, long story for my theory there since my husband could hold her before we brought her home.
Have had many a lovebird over the years, two I have picked out and assorted foster peeps. All are gone except my lovely Lady.
OH and now 3 new chicks! (laying hens)
Greetings !
I recently purchased some chickens to add to my parrot flock. I have 26 macaws, 1 African Grey and a toucan. My chickens are 2 Marans, 2 Polish and 1 Andalusian. The girls are 3 weeks old and I have their home on order to be delivered in the next few weeks when the weather gets warmer up here in the Pacific NW!
I have one parrot right now, and his name is Sammy. He's a 20YO double yellow headed amazon. I got him in July 1998 when he was 7 years and 4 months old (I found this out later by tracing his leg band to his breeder) from a pet store I used to frequent. He's fully flighted, ridiculously bonded to me (follows me around the house, usually flying but occasionally walking), and is aggressively jealous of anyone who comes near me. As I type this, he's sitting on my ankle while I'm reclining on the couch. He is my second amazon.
My first, Popeye, was a blue front, and he passed away at the tender age of 5 years after battling some kind of heart infection (three different vets couldn't figure it out, even after a necropsy...all they could do was trace the path of destruction...I keep his ashes with me still). I got Popeye when I was 14, and I brought him with me when I went away to college the first time around. He died during winter break of my freshman year.
After Popeye and before Sammy I also had a pair of dusky conures put together from two former pets who found their way to being adopted by me, but when I realized they wanted to breed, I found them a better place. There was also a pair of senior cockatiels I adopted many many years ago, but they went to live with my grandmother's flock of cockatiels.
ANYWAY, here's my boy, in various pictures I have on my facebook page, which I am posting here. The most recent ones are the nice, clear sharp pics I took with my laptop within the last year and a half. And the weird human in the pics is me.

And again...
The rest are in my room, last winter, when I tried out my new laptop
Yes, I know he's handsome, but keep it down...he's listening, and he's already got a big head about it.
Well you won't believe what my mischievous Eclectus, Zsa Zsa did today!!!!! While I was going in and out of the house taking care of the outdoor chickens and flowers, Zsa Zsa was doing her daily stroll across the tops of two large finch cages. After I'd finished up outside and came in to clean up and work inside I heard rustling of wings.....not in the bird room. Then I saw a finch streak across the living room. OMG! they are almost impossible to catch in my vaulted ceiling LR with all kinds of boxes and stuff sitting around where I'm trying to pack up things to give away, sell or put in storage....in other words....it's a DISASTER. I figured out that the Eclectus had opened the latch on one of the cage doors and LET THEM OUT!!!!!! It took me over 2 hours and every last bit of my patience to finally catch all of them and return them safely to the cage. Their favorite spot was the clere story windows 20 ft. up in the LR. I wadded up newspaper ads and threw them at the windows repeatedly to keep them flying. Eventually they get tired and land somewhere on the ground where you have to net them quickly before the cat finds out the're on the loose. Luckily she slept through the whole event.
It was a very stressful couple of hours for all concerned. Mercifully none of them were harmed in the flights or captures. They're so delicate and tiny!
Zsa Zsa is doing detention in her (huge, toy filled) cage until I can get 4 tiny locks for the latches in both finch cages. She's not to be trusted now that she knows she can do it.
