I live in a little town of only about 50 people and there are 3 of us in town that own chickens. I was the last one to get some. The others have all owned chickens for years. One neighbor raises his for eggs only and has no roos. The family across the street raises birds for their kids to take to 4-H, but they also raise them for eggs and meat. They are constantly buying and selling birds. They also have problems all the time with lice and mites. They have roosters but theirs aren't bad and don't bother us. I can't speak for the other neighbors. I tried to place my coop far enough back in the yard so as not to both neighbors. SO far no one has complained. And even if they did, too bad! My boys don't crow constantly, and only my one little banty roo crows early. And he doesn't even crow til around 7am. The family across the street also has guinea (those are more obnoxious in my opinion) and a big crested duck that was raised with their chickens and thinks he's a chicken. I have ducks too, but I only have a pair of Mallards. Mine think they are chickens too, lol. So far that's it as far as chickens go. Most of my neighbors are older and I don't foresee any of them up and buying chickens anytime soon!
