How many people truly have "Backyard" Chickens?

I'm not free ranging them at this time due to a large husky that has managed to kill eight of my chickens in the last two months. One about two months ago, three this past Thursday morning and four yesterday morning. On Thursday this dog ate all except the legs of Teak, my black giant rooster and had started on my black giant hen. I had a pair of golden sebrights in a cage but this dog managed to take off the head of the roo.

Yeaterday I awoke to my neighbor's firing a gun in my backyard. Turns out he caught the very same dog feasting yet again. He shot the dog in the butt because he couldn't see his head. This time the dog got my golden sebright hen and three others. I worry that he'll be back once he heals so I'm getting animal control involved.

Hungryhens, sorry to hear about the dog.

We free range our chickens in the front, in the North West Pasture. Our house is about 600 feet off the road so the pasture is in front of the house. We have 17acres divided into a family compound for my inlaws and my husband and I. We have another perkable lot that we could subdivide again so that my daughter could build a house in the back if she wanted to, or my husbands cousin.

We live on 3.5 acres only two blocks from a mall, many restuarants, stores and a theater! Best of both worlds I guess! The traffic is terrible but egg sales are great in this location. The birds live in an old horse barn with each stall leading out to a pen. My oldest 3yo birds tend to wander the farthest on freedom days but still stay on the Mostly fenced property. Each pen is allowed out in a biweekly rotation. We have around 200 chickens, Geese, Turkeys, Goats, Dogs, Rabbits,and etc...

We have 8 acres here, but I do have a backyard that is about a half of those 8 acres.

We live on barely an acre. Most of which is our front yard. The dogs have a small fenced in area. My goaties are in a small fenced area as well. The chickens have a large dog kennel thats covered. 10x20 i think. They free range during the day some while I'm home. So yup, backyard chickens!

Well, we've got 243 acres. 180 of it is timberland, 50 is levee. 10 is water, so we actually only have a 3 acre yard.

I have a front and a back yard. My chickens and rabbits live in the back yard. My garden is in my front yard and our moble is in the middle of it all. We are a bit more than a half acre.

I have just under 3 acres and yes I have a backyard and yes my chickens live in it!

I'm on a city lot here. The chickens are really in the backyard, and sometimes I let them free range, so that gives them access to the side yard, too.

My entire lot is only 7200 sq ft. The house is around 1000, plus we have a 400 sq ft garage and a 100 sq ft shed. So yeah...I have really do have backyard ducks.
